Welcome to the first episode of the Insights in Nursing Podcast. A regular program featuring nurse leaders, bloggers and podcasters discussing current news about nurses, nursing care, and health issues.

Join our discussion this week with Kim McAllister of the Emergiblog and Terri Polick of Nurse Ratched's Place as we look at several recent stories in the news about nurses. They bring their viewpoints to the table and share them with host Jamie Davis, the Podmedic of the Nursing Show and MedicCast podcasts.

Leading off the discussion, we look at a story about a nurse who allegedly encouraged people to commit suicide during online chat discussions. Moving along, Kim is intrigued by a health careers high school starting in Chicago and we wonder if the program moves people into nursing school or just creates CNA's an hospital techs.

We wrap up this portion of the episode with a look at Samson University's huge nursing program in Alabama. Terri and Kim note that all of the graduates in the photo of the recent pinning ceremony are wearing their caps.

We talked for so long that we split the episode into two parts. Check out the rest of the discussion in part two, coming out next week.
