In the news this week: - A Fiercehealthcare story on advocates calling for having more nurses involved in health care reform. We are essentially in every corner of health care, yet have almost no voice in the massive, sweeping reforms that are coming. - A Fiercehealthcare IT story on how much hospitals are spending annually on scanning paper medical records – $100 million dollars! And, they plan on continuing this inefficient, and wasteful practice for up to five years yet! - A story from Fiercehealthcare’s main site on proven ways to improve hospital quality. - A story out of EMS World that talks about a couple Florida hospitals that are agressively marketing their ER’s to try to capture more patients. Interesting, since ER’s are typically overcrowded! Maybe there needs to be a balance struck between increasing revenue and patient care? - A thought provoking article from Emergency Medical News on not celebrating Nurses Week, Emergency Nurses week, or any other “professional recognition” week/day. Read the entire article before you get out your poison syringes!! I tend to agree with the author. - And finally, a Medline Plus article on how red wine affects the heart. It appears that it affects each ventricle differently. And now on with the show!! Enjoy!! |
