In this weeks episode:

This podcast marks the beginning of the third year of the show!! Wow! It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long already! Thank you to all of my listeners/readers for making the show one of the most downloaded on iTunes and the blog a Top 50 nursing blog!

With the thrid year beginning and things changing at PhoenixCE, I thought it would be a good time to update the opening of the show. Thanks once again to Tanya Rich for the voiceover! I greatly appreciate it (and I LOVE her voice!).

Speaking of PhoenixCE, the reference sheets for all the previous podcasts are available for download now. Just go to www.phoenixce.com and register as a customer and you can download them for free. There’s no purchase necessary, and they’ll always remain free.

Also at PhoenixCE, I’ll be making two courses available for purchase as downloads in the next week. Look for them and start earning CEU’s on the go!

And, don’t forget about the nursing at sea cruise coming up in January of 2011. Go to nursingatsea.com and sign up for the newsletter to find out more!!

In the news today:

The Red Cross has updated its’ “safe and well” website to integrate with Facebook and Twitter. This technology can help locate family/friends in a disaster area and/or let you register yourself and safe if you’re in the disaster area.

Medline Plus reports on two new studies that describe ways to fix damaged heart muscle. Both of these ways are in the field of regenerative medicine, which is an up and coming field. Very interesting potential!

JEMS.com has a great article on lead placement for both monitoring and 12 lead ECG’s. Lead placement can drastically change what you’re looking at, so this is an important skill.

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is awarding grant monies to help shore up the nations healthcare workforce, and nursing is getting the largest portion of it! Now, if someone would only work on increasing our staffing ratios and decreasing the amount of documentation we have to do, nursing would do MUCH better as a profession!

And finally, another article on regenerative medicine. This one is from Medical News Today and talks about regenerating nerve tissue after spinal cord injury. Good stuff!

And now, on to the podcast! Enjoy!
