First and foremost, thank you for all the well wishes. I have a family member in the hospital and have had to put off the podcast a bit because of that. But, as you see, the podcast is coming out (basically) on time.

I wanted to let you know that Jamie Davis is exploring the possibility of setting up a listener cruise. It would be for listeners of nursing related podcasts and have CEU’s available also. I think this is a GREAT idea and one I am whole heartedly behind! He’s doing a survey now to garner interest and ideas, so please take a minute and take the survey. The link to it is:

I also wanted to remind everyone that the first year DVD archive is still available for purchase. Come to the site and click on the “Shop” link at the top and buy your copy today!

Now the news:

First, an article from Medical News Today on the effects of prolonged sitting.

Next up, is an article from Medline Plus that talks about a new, minimally invasive technique, to treat AAA.

Also from Medline Plus is an article on the potential benefits of NOT immediately removing an appendix when it is inflamed. Interesting thinking!

The next article I have for you is from JEMS.com and deals with the mind – body connection for healing, or better, self healing. It delves into the minds ability to help the healing process and is something I think we need to learn more about.

And last, an article form Medline Plus on the use of St. Johns Wort for
menopausal symptoms.

And finally – 2010 marks the ruby anniversary of the ENA. 40 years of providing a voice for emergency nurses!! If you’re not already a member, you should be!! Benefits include:
Subscription to the JEN and ENA connection
Access to members only resources
Discounts on conferences, educational offerings, and products
Peer networking opportunities
A chance to get involved both locally and nationally on issues that affect YOU in the workplace!

I always advocate joining the ENA. It’s a great way to keep up with what’s going on in our profession, has wonderful resources, and speaks for us on a national stage to so many organizations and regulatory agencies! Support those who are supporting us and join! Then get involved! (And it never hurts to become certified as an emergency nurse either!)
Only 5 listeners voted in my online poll and only 2 said they were CEN’s! Here’s your chance to help make a difference in your profession!
