Episode 23: Environmental Emergencies Part 2

In today’s episode, I cover the second part of environmental emergencies.

In the news today, I discuss an article from Modern Physician about the Inspector General’s office of the US Department of Health and Human Services about a hospital who wants to pay physicians to be on call. This has long ranging potentials for how “on call” status is handled and how EMTALA is interpreted.
I also discuss an article from WebMD about inner ear problems in the elderly.
For those of you who listen to my show on a regualr basis, you know I discuss alternative/nutritional therapies a lot. I believe there is a lot to be said or nutritional therapy, and they are used by millions of people in the US (as well as world wide). But there are also negatives to them, and I feel it important for we as nurses to understand them. That’s why I discuss an article from WebMd on comfrey root and its’ use for treating acute back pain. This is one nutritional that may work well.
And for those of you who still want to hear about the Swine Flu, I have two articles, both from WebMD. The first is a story claiming the CDC and WHO feel the Swine Flu may be subsiding for the year. The second states the CDC is closer to developing a vaccine for the Swine Flu than previously thought. This is good since they expect a varriant of it to come back for this years flu season.
And finally, the last article is from CNN.com about physicians making house calls again. It seems what’s old is new again!

And here’s the podcast…………….
